If its a USB only printer with no ethernet.
Without purchasing anything but cables.
Step 1. Connect iMac#1 and iMac#2 via Ethenet cable. Or wirelessly if both iMacs got Airport WiFi.
Step 2. On iMac#1 plug in printer via USB.
Step 3. on iMac#1 Enable " "Printer Sharing" on System Manager->Sharing
Note:
* On older Macs a regular RJ-45 Ethernet cable will not work. You would need an Ethernet Crossover cable. The cables are wired differently on the ends to work without a Ethernet Hub/Switch. On newer Macs this is not an issue.
* iMac#1 MUST always be ON to enable printer sharing. If its off or in sleep mode. You won't be able to print.
* If you get your Internet thru DSL and cable modem and its plugged in via Ethernet. There is the hassle of plugging and unplugging cables.
If you willing to invest in network equipment try.

How can I connect two iMacs to share our Xerox Phaser 6180 printer?
We do not have a server or any kind of network. I tried connecting with a USB hub, but that did not work either.
