I know this is not the answer but how do you know he had a favorite brand?
There were about 120 brewers in the US around that time. One brand in Philadelphia was Robert Smith. Probably dozens more in Boston. He actually writes that he likes Philadelphia beer. Sorry couldn't be more help. I look into it more. Interesting question.

John Adams was second president of the USA. What was his favorite beer?
Style of beer and brewer please.
Not his own homebrew. I know he liked taverns and professionally brewed beer as well.

• I was hoping for a better answer. I think one could make a short list with explanations. For example, mine guesses would be the beer from the City Tavern in Philadalphia and the Morris brewery of Philadelphia.

I don't know that he did; but, I am trying to gather the facts. He seems to have been a pleasant reviewer, often saying that the latest tavern he visited was the best.
