it's true that it could happen within about 10 minutes but seconds is much too fast. Fertilization occurs in the fallopian tubes, which is on the opposite end of the uterus as the cervix.
though sperm can survive for up to a week commonly by that point they are no longer viable. ideally intercourse should take place 1-2 days before ovulation, giving the sperm 3-5 days to fertilize the egg in the appropriate spot.
my advice is to take a home pregnancy test. there are many other reasons why your gf may have skipped a period. it is not that uncommon in women. and even though you state that she only bled a little in december, menstrual flow may also vary month to month.
obviously i don't know you and your gf, but chances are that if you were having unprotected sex during december the baby is probably yours. you can look up numbers until your eyes hurt, but sometimes things just happen. right now you should just figure out if she is or not and then deal with the situation whatever your choice may be, before you run out of options.

If she may be pregnant, she should really get health care NOW. There are life-threatening things that can happen and develop overnight in pregnancy. Threatening to HER life, as well as the baby's. My sister-in-law barely survived one of these things, and she knew she was pregnant and she'd just seen her doctor the week before when she had to be rushed to the E.R.
Trust me, her dad would rather have her alive and pregnant than dead because of being pregnant. If she possibly got pregnant almost 3 months ago it will show up on a test. And then, for her health and for the baby's, she needs to have knowledge and health care. I normally recommend midwives as being more knowledgeable, but even they usually want women to be screened by a doctor first.

cjm- it's not about having sex 3-6 days before her period, it's about having sex 3-5 days before ovulation, which is usually halfway through a womans cycle (anywhere from 12-18 days after her last period began). on average a woman gets her period every 28 days, and ovulates every 28 days (each ovulation occurs 14 days after the start of each period) it's when a woman is ovulating that she is fertile and able to become pregnant.

If the egg is far enough down the fallopian tube, it can be fertilized in seconds. Implantation can take another few days, but if the egg is fertilized, she's pregnant. She should definitely know by now. I knew within 2 weeks with all my kids. If she may be pregnant, she should really get health care NOW. There are life-threatening things that can happen and develop overnight in pregnancy. Threatening to HER life, as well as the baby's. ummm, not exactly seconds. that's not true at all. considering sperm can only move a millimeters per second, they would have barely made it into the cervix in seconds.
