What's the most accurate way to know when I am ovulating?
I am currently taking medication (not reproductive related, i.e. not birth control) that is kind of screwing me up. How can I know when I am ovulating when things aren't exactly running on schedule?

One is to check your cervical mucus.
And two is to check your basal temperature every morning.
There are also fertility/ovulation tests available, They test hormone levels so you can chart your cycle. But if you aren't trying to conceive, they may not be worth it.

Obviously I know less about this than someone of the female persuasion, but I am wondering if some medications will give false readings of the cervical mucus and raise or lower the temp. The temp change is slight isn't it? Like a couple degrees?

@moriss003 I guess it's possible. I mean. I'm not a doctor but I'm not sure if a medication can do that. If anything, it may change the temperature chart because it's messing with hormones but that wouldn't be a false reading. You need a special thermometer because the changes are not even a couple of degrees, it's like decimals of degrees.

i don't usually like to give a simple link as an answer, but this link to fertility predictor tests is quite complete and answers your question well. http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/opk.html

Very good question. I am not a doctor, (but you knew that, demanda.) I think that this question is so important and wrought with consequences that you should not trust any website with the answer, not even a medical website. You need to consult not just a doctor but a specialist on the particular medication that you are taking.

It's not that abnormal to have medications mess with your hormones and your menstrual cycle but I agree that talking to a doc is always the best way to go!

Yeah, it's a common side effect for my medication, and so it's nothing I'm really worried about...just curious. I have to visit my doctor again in a couple weeks anyhow.
