Pornographers: exemplars of free speech, or abusers of free speech?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

What a good question! I have such mixed opinions on this issue that it is difficult to give an answer.

On the one hand, porn damages marriages. Husbands who got used to pleasing themselves with porn before they got married often have unrealistic expectations of their wives, and so they stay with their porn. This inhibits intimacy.

On the other hand, yes, porn is expression. I don't want to curtail people's freedom of expression. And honestly, romance novels spoil women for real men just as much as porn spoils men for real women.

So I guess on balance I will say pornographers are exemplars of free speech.

Although the law says they can do it I think it should be more contained.

Well first of all you have to consider Child porn and animal porn, examples of unwilling participants. Then you have drug addicts coerced into porn and "snuff" films where they actually kill people on film and sell tapes of it. Don't forget the AIDS epidemic among Porn stars. How far are you willing to go in the name of Freedom? How about the Man-Boy Love Association? and don't forget the emergency room visits for the protracted colons of young girls who have larger and larger objects shoved up their anus in the name of stimulating the good people of America. Porn is a dirty, filthy, violent, demeaning and dangerous "industry", with "working conditions" that would not be allowed in any other area of society.

Well I guess it's all OK, just so long as every pervert that wants to can feed his sickness on the internet, and every slimy pornographer with blood on his hands can practice his ART. Are we really this stupid? I guess we are.

I wouldn't consider it speech..freedom of expression yes. I personally feel what is considered porn typically to be dishonorable to the participants and a way of lowering the value of sex and love, however i also understand that true freedom cannot only adhere to the things one person finds appropriate. So in the interest of true freedom I would even fight to keep porn legal.

Exemplars of free speech. Pornography is just an expression of sex, which is perfectly natural for us; porn is innocent in its self. It is people's twisted minds that make it "evil".
