Ok, I am going to take my time to answer this question in my own words.
According to
http://24ahead.com/chuck-schumer-sotomayor-within-judicial-mainstream-immigrati
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, chairman of Judiciary’s immigration subcommittee, asked his people (Staff) to find out how Sonia voted. They discovered that Sonia Sotomayor out of the 848, which there was 955 immigration cases total, cases in which Sotomayor has taken part she voted 144. So she sided with the foreigner over the government 17% of the time. If you think about the precentage it does not sound like much but when you think that she voted for 144, it is a lot.
I am quoting someone,
---quote---
Chuck Shumer says:
"These findings should put to rest any doubts about Judge Sotomayor’s fidelity to the rule of law. Even in immigration cases, which would most test the so-called ‘empathy factor,’ Judge Sotomayor’s record is well within the judicial mainstream." Chuck Shumer
