No, we are not about to see a new McCarthy Era. It is sad to see a party which once ran greats like Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt (who left in disgust though) now have such bitter, divisive, and ignorant spokespeople. But the Republicans have just suffered one of their most thorough defeats, its principles and policies have been exposed as disastrous shams, and their long term prospects depend upon ridding themselves of people like Bachmann.
Meanwhile, there really are three current Socialist parties in the US, but they have not managed to elect anyone to Congress.
"Socialist" seems to be a recently expanded adjective used by Hate Radio types for anyone in favor of liberal ideas. This seems to be because they have to use stronger and stronger insults to keep their audience and they have worn out "Liberal". Of course, both Liberal and Socialist are respectable labels in many of our closest allies' countries.

GOP is accusing 17 member of Congress as being Socialists, Who are they?
According to Birmingham News..
http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/04/bachus_tells_city_and_county_o.html
--Quote--
But he said he is worried that he is being steered too far by the Congress: "Some of the men and women I work with in Congress are socialists."
Asked to clarify his comments after the breakfast speech at the Trussville Civic Center, Bachus said 17 members of the U.S. House are socialists.
--/quote--
This reminds me of when Michelle Bachmann called Liberals Anti-American, and wanted them "exposed"

• Thanks, great explanation, I realize the Republicans haven't released the 17 names so this is the best answer.

Well, anyone that knows anything knows that there are... exactly... ::looks at ketchup bottle:: 57 card carrying members of the Socialist Party in congress! I can't find any news source that has an actual list, and it looks as if he hasn't disclosed this information. I am guessing it will be along these lines: Whitehouse, Sheldon, D-R.I.
Sanders, Bernie, I-Vt.
Menendez, Robert, D-N.J.
Lautenberg, Frank, D-N.J.
Leahy, Patrick, D-Vt.
Boxer, Barbara, D-Calif.
Reid, Harry, D-Nev.
Feingold, Russell, D-Wis.
Harkin, Tom, D-Iowa
Murray, Patty, D-Wash.
Durbin, Richard, D-Ill.
Reed, Jack, D-R.I.
Schumer, Charles, D-N.Y.
Stabenow, Debbie, D-Mich.
Cantwell, Maria, D-Wash.
Cardin, Ben, D-Md.
Kerry, John, D-Mass.

FTA he said House. You've listed the Senators. Point stands though--he's either quoting from some "reliable" right-wing source, or pulling numbers out of his nethers.

Oh man! How do I refute my own fact, LOL! Utter FAIL. So wait, 17 in the HOUSE? Even if that were true, it is such a small number and an ultimately useless distinction. The US is becoming a global nation. Anywhere else in the world, if you are at a bar and having a drink and watching a debate, a conversation could go like, "I'm a Conservative, where do you stand?" "Oh me? I'm a Socialist. So who do you fancy to win this game?" "Oh, I dunno, I've not been keeping up with it." That said, the Socialist candidate in 08 got around 6500 votes. "THEY'RE TAKIN' OVER THE WORLD!"
Well, here's to the House:
Sanchez, Linda, D-Calif.
Schakowsky, Jan, D-Ill.
Wynn, Albert, D-Md.
McGovern, Jim, D-Mass.
Conyers, John, D-Mich.
Baldwin, Tammy, D-Wis.
Moore, Gwen, D-Wis.
Honda, Mike, D-Calif.
Capps, Lois, D-Calif.
Delahunt, Bill, D-Mass.
Watt, Melvin, D-N.C.
Ellison, Keith, D-Minn.
Carson, Julia, D-Ind.
Farr, Sam, D-Calif.
Hinchey, Maurice, D-N.Y.
Johnson, Hank, D-Ga.
Slaughter, Louise, D-N.Y.

My answer reflected what votes would lead media types to do and I responded from that.
Frankly, "we the people" only FULLY know what is going on in general by media outlets, commentators and speculation.
As to the GOP, they aren't alone in failings. People from both parties have issues with who they voted for.
I can name Hate Internet and newspapers.......Hate Radio isn't the only thing that overuses perjorative terms.
Being a basically two party run system will be our largest problem for a while.
Let's bring some debate and brainstorming to Congress!
