I'm a republican, because I have never seen a third party win, so I have to choose between democrats and republicans.

I want a small government that protects its citizens and their property and otherwise stays out of their lives. The U.S. Government has been steadily taking over aspects of our lives and performing poorly. Public education, mail delivery, and transportation are all more expensive and of lower quality than private alternatives (remember that you are taxed for all those things as well as any additional usage fees).

Few republicans are for limited government anymore (George W. Bush was certainly happy with big government), but even fewer democrats are. More republicans believe in protecting the rights of unborn than democrats.

Republicans and democrats are harder and harder to tell apart, probably because republicans think they will be better liked if they are the same as democrats. I think it's time for conservatives to start explaining to America what they believe and why they believe it, much like Ronald Regan did once. We are not a cold party that doesn't care about the environment, the poor, and the sick. We are the party who is realistic enough to differentiate between intentions and results. Liberals claim to be fixing all our problems, even as they worsen. Conservatives want clean air and water, better education, better health care, more jobs, and higher pay. We just understand that many laws proposed to answer these needs are merely power grabs that will not address the real issues.
