Hmm... my guess is, it's a joke-shop toy.

Or... given the hair-do and the dress, it might be Chinglish on a socio-cultural level, i.e. a Chinese curio manufacturer was brainstorming with staff for new product ideas, and his 14 year old nephew told him that he'd read about pole dancers being popular in America, so they slap something together without consulting an American about the suitability of the hair and clothing, not to mention the theme altogether...

Or... it's got a magnetic bottom, and is battery-powered in order to attach to a trucker's dashboard so he can get a laugh on a long haul, in which case the dress should be attached to some static part of the toy, and held together with snaps, so that when the doll spins around the pole, the dress gets peeled off.

If it's for real, items like that are worth far more for their bizzarness factor than what might have originally been intended.

I had a friend who bought (through an 800 number on TV, advertized after midnight) a little battery-powered, wireframe Elvis doll about 9 inches tall, on a little pedestal embedded with a micro-cassette player (it came with little micro-cassettes of classic Elvis hits), and you were supposed to twist the doll into an Elvis-pose, then turn on the player, and out a little speaker in the pedestal would come "One for the money... two for the show...", in a teeny, tiny, tinie voice. Little coloured LED's would sparkle around it's feet.

He thought it was *hillarious*, and would pull it out at parties when he thought the crowd was mentally lubricated enough, and if you were in the right state of mind, it *was* hillarous, so hang onto that little poletrix.

How can you pole dance in a full dress? At least you need a gym outfit.

I imagine the toy is made in China. In China pole dancing has become a legitimate style of exercising even more than it has here.

I think it's a good idea.

Pole dancing is suitable for all ages. We used to have a pole (left over maypole) at our Oktoberfest and the kids were always playing on it. I notice a pole dancing school giving Senior Discounts.

First let me just say that I believe this product came out of the fact that pole dancing is moving from being something found in strip clubs to something many affluent, married women are doing as a form of fun and exercise. I believe it is a little too soon, however. People haven't come that far yet to be able to accept such a brazen thing produced for their daughters. Nobody wants to imagine their daughters working in a strip club, but do remember that pole dancing is becoming legit now. It not only gives you an extremely effective form of exercise, but it also shows the prudes how to please their husbands.

I would, however, like to relate a story to you guys. I know this family (mother, son, and daughter). The daughter found out about sex long ago when she ran away from home. The home is stable. The mother is a good mother. The brother helps protect the daughter, but, as many parents find out, no matter how well you raise your kids you just never know what path they will take. As a 19-year-old, the daughter showed interest working in a strip club and she does have the looks and the figure for it. Her mother forbid her from going into such an occupation, as the mother is highly religious. The daughter listened to her mother and moved on with her life in another direction. After a couple of years since that time, the daughter has never held a job and is now living on the street, prostituting herself for drugs, shooting up heroin every chance she gets and taking every pill she can get her hands on, sneaking into her relatives' houses to steal anything she can pawn. There's no way to know if things would have turned out differently had she went into the profession, but she would have at least had money and probably her own place and that, at least, should have raised her self esteem some and caused her to learn more responsibility.

The moral of the story is, to all those parents out there, just remember that a strip club is not the absolute worst place a girl could end up. You may not like it, but at least it is a legal and very lucrative job!

I don't buy it. You smell that?

That's the smell of hoaxiness! Hoax, hoax, hoax. First off, there seems to be only one source disseminating this photo and "story". That alone is fishy. Also fishy is that no company claims production of the doll, and no details seem available about how much the doll sells for, where it's sold, etc.

I suspect one of the following scenarios is going on:

1.) This is a Photoshop job.
I think the doll was originally a really cheap ballerina doll that someone decided to Photoshop into a stripper doll. Notice that the grammar (why isn't she called "Pole DanceR"? Instead of just "Pole Dance"?) errors, and the capitalization errors on the box? Work of a bored teenager? Maybe!

2.) This is a cheap, foreign-country mockery of American Culture. Again, the problems with the grammar and capitalization on the box are fishy - maybe it's because the originator didn't speak English as a first language. Plus this is a really cheap looking doll - not the type of thing to be mass-produced by Mattel or Playskool, ya know? If this is the case, then we'll never see a single doll in the U.S. (unless Ebayers are clever), and it was probably meant as an adult joke.

Yeah, I really think this is a non-story. A case for outrage when people don't even know what the toy is, where it comes from, or anything else about it. When more than one picture surfaces and more details emerge, then I'll consider getting outraged. But I think this toy can be filed away in the land of Leprechauns and unicorns.

Or maybe slutty leprechauns and slutty unicorns?

I think you have entirely the wrong spin on this. Pole dancing is gaining wide acceptance. The photo does not look like a photoshopped item at all, it looks like a snapshot taken in a store. Probably in Taiwan or such like place. The doll does not appear to be sold in the USA. They are apparently easy to make because there is also a USB toy of fairly similar design but with an adult doll in a bikini. You're right about the fake outrage, however. Social conservatives are always on the lookout for items to get mad about. They should keep their bile to themselves.

Uh-oh, I don't think @samid liked me calling her 19 year-old runaway a slutty unicorn!

But I still stand by my answer as helpful, direct, appropriate, and on-topic.

If pole dancing is getting wide acceptance, why is it always performed in stripper gear? It's getting wide acceptance because of the mainstreaming of porn. And I'm not anything CLOSE to a social conservative.

WTF Is this a joke? Does the doll come with Hannah Montana's box of breakfast cereal and one of her cherries to pop in for added flavor?

I tend to be disassociated but this seems screepy to me.

Screepy is my new word for something just above the level of creepy, it's creepy + scary.

No @gno Liz Taylor put it up on Freecycle and it went to the first sweat shop toy manufacturer that asked. Screepy indeed.

Is it wrong that I find the doll's wig and dress screepier than her occupation?

I think the world we live in today reflects all kinds of life styles across the board.

We have had Army Men Dolls for I don't know how long and we chose to complain about War....

We have had Skinny Dolls for children with weight issues and complain about that. I know we have larger frame dolls for those parents with a sense of responsibility for the upbringing of there children..You get my drift.

Hell....as long as the paint and chemicals used to manufacture this obscure little freakish thing wont do harm those who purchase it...then we should not worry about it.

I personally wont be introducing it to my Little boy anytime soon.

I would love to buy one and send it out as a adult joke. Maybe to a old girlfriend.....
I would place it in a shoe box filled with S#i% then wrapping it with Job applications and a note saying...."Get a Clue Yet?"

This will be the only reason I would buy this Doll.

Ridiculous! It's fine for adult women to choose this form of dance as exercise to entertainment & anywhere in between, but when it comes to children & toys... come on! It's as ridiculous as those little girl belly shirts, Brittney Spears as a role model, Hannah Montana with her elicit photos, & the like.
