You can probably make that out or translate it. It basically means the guy who looked after the King's wine and drinks. In English it would be the Steward, in the old knightly tales. He was a high ranking official of the court, totally trusted, because his job included making sure that the King did not get poisoned. In English the Steward came to have other meanings and declined over time, échanson is more like the King Arthur version.
