Sadly, the PSP isn't known for it's educational titles. With games like Brainage, etc, the Nintendo DS would be a better choice for someone looking for educational content.

That being said:
Lumines Supernova is available for download on the Playstation Network:

It's fun to play and has lessons to be learned in spatial sense, logic, etc.

The PSP is exceptionally good at video. I might suggest that rather than use it for educational games that you fill it with kid friendly educational content. Finding something that takes his or her interests into account would ensure enjoyment and enhanced knowledge.

Some of the video titles that I recommend you look into putting on the PSP include:

The American Presidents DVD Trivia Game

Dinosaurs Unearthed

The Best of Beakman's World

It is possible to put these DVD titles on your PSP.

I hope that this helps Meckimac!

http://www.dositey.com/legacyHome.php?PHPSESSID=f4be7ea has a program called shopping math that you can download for your PSP. It is a great real-life introduction to math for the little ones
