playing chrono trigger, trying to get red plate. but when i go to castle in 1000 A.D i get chased away? y and how do i get it?

If you are trying to get into the Guardia Castle in 1000 AD, make sure you have Marle in your active party. Once you go inside, you'll encounter the Chancellor who will talk to you about certain things (Don't want to spoil it for you).
The trick to getting the chest that contains the Red Mail/Plate, however, is to have not chosen to get the contents of the chest in Year 600 AD. If you chose to not get those contents, then the chest in 1000 AD will be unsealed and you can take the Red Plate/Mail from the chest.
