Plaid is a fun pattern, I wonder who invented it? It's been getting more popular as old styles are reused again.

Plaid was invented by the Scots. The word originally meant "blanket" but has become a synonym for "tartan" (the multicolored criss-cross fabric pattern) especially in the US. Although it is commnonly believed that different plaid patterns are associated with different Scottish clans, they were originally of regional origin, and it wasn't until the mid-19th century that Scottish clans or families began adopting specific patterns.
