Speaking as a photographer, I agree with the sentiment of emailuser42.
Typical art books don't use many full figured models. Most publishers today wouldn't even consider printing such a book for fear of reprisal by activists.
I applaud Mr. Nimoy for his ability to use his fame to push his art into the mainstream. It does make a statement.
Without the typical, thin, models in the shot the viewer is invited to look at the piece and cast judgement on the pose or technique. There will always be those who just see "fat chicks", but it invites the viewer to ponder more than that.
If it were thin, styled, posed models instead - viewers are more likely to respond with "sexy" comments and potentially miss what the artist was trying to do in the first place.
From a technical standpoint my initial opinion of Mr. Nimoys work falls under the category of "aspiring beginner" but only because those were the quality of images I was producing when I first started when shooting.
On a side note, I enjoy a few images he's done. But if it wasn't Leonard Nimoy I wouldn't have given his work a second look.

Fashion likes thin people, and there are people who are just thin because of their genes, as there are people who have a tendency to be bigger. In the middle there are also a lot of people - not full figure or very thin. We just need to be rational about this.

What do you think about the nude photography book that Leonard Nimoy took of full figured models? Does that balance our cult of thinness

I personally think this is overkill. Most people is not full figured or supermodel thin. Why go out of your way to push full figured photos so you can show they can also be beautiful? Just seems silly to me. Fashion likes thin people, and there are people who are just thin because of their genes, as there are people who have a tendency to be bigger. In the middle there are also a lot of people - not full figure or very thin. We just need to be rational about this.
