Webster's Dictionary defines history as "the branch of knowledge dealing with past events" or "the aggregate of past events" so by definition, we are in history as soon as it happens.
If you are asking if we are going through historical times, that is a different question. I can only provide my thoughts as there are no references as to what will be recorded as an historic event 100 years from now.
The first black President of the United States will be an historic event because it is a first. At the very least it will get a sentence in the history books.
I think it is too early to tell if the current economic situation will be noted in history but we are certainly trending that way with the threatened collapse of our banking system and the number of bailouts. When you combine the US economic situation with the global economic situation, the chances increase.
Due to the death toll and length of the War in middle east combined with the reasons for starting the war, the war will definitely earn a place in the history.
Change is about to happen. Globalization, shift in power from Republican to Democrat, third world countries moving forward and becoming powerful, an unstable world economy, the "green" effort, and rapid advancements in technology all point toward change and change is usually recorded in history. As things get "worse" people tend to pull together and do amazing things that lead to historic events.

I think we all live in history, but will all of us be remembered? In battle the victors are the one who write the history, so in the case of those who have lost battles, the survivors will pencil in the details and possibly write themselves in where others will fall away into oblivion.

Consider that everything we see on TV or hear on the radio occurs in the past. Even in the microseconds it might take for a satellite transmission to round the globe and reach our TV, that moment occurred in the past, in history. I think we all live in history, but will all of us be remembered? In battle the victors are the one who write the history, so in the case of those who have lost battles, the survivors will pencil in the details and possibly write themselves in where others will fall away into oblivion.

Our perception is of history. Thought requres time. Our own being-ness is perceived as history by ourselves. This perceived self is not true self. If true self is housed in history, no action would be possible. The gap between "is" (or true self) and "histor" is necessary for the action of "being" (or living.) The seer can not see self, only a reflection. So, no even though it may look that way.

Yes we are in history, at least economically - the worse stock exchange drop since 1930 and one of the worst global economic crisis :)

History exists when an event is noticed and explained or documented in some way. History is not necessarily about what happened. To become a record of history, the explanation of an event doesn't even have to be accurate - all that is required is for someone to 'say' it is accurate. So to answer your question "Are we in history?"
We are now.
