Interesting question!
I'd say maybe.
If I could clone the dog body AND mind, preserving its memories, I would absolutely go for it. However, if I could only clone the body, that would be a mixed blessing. The personality and experiences my dog will have developed in its lifetime with me will still be gone.
Maybe in the future if they develop the ability to read and record memories from our brains, and further, imprint brains with the neural information, it might make cloning a really attractive option. By then though, who knows, they might have discovered how to extend life period through other means.

My dog is too possessive. He wouldn't be able to handle a clone.
Yes, and it's not a bad idea, because there are plenty of great dogs and cats out there. However, if you cloned a dog or cat it might be the same, look the same, act the same, yet you would have to start over with training it. Think of cloning as reproducing, with everything else blank.
No. Our dog is part retarded I think. He is scared of shadows.
dog or cat, no...but, definitily my girlfriend...!!!
If they had the process down to where there wasn't degradation so the clone ended up sick in a few years, yes. If I'd already lost the original pet I don't think I could watch the clone die of weird genetic diseases a few years down the line.
I would not clone either of my cats. When they pass on to kitty heaven it will be fun to get a new cat with a fresh new look and personality.
no I love em... but once around is nice... All pets have there place and time...
I would just go nuts anyways...

That's a good question. It would be interesting to discover which personality traits/quirks the original and clone share. I had a cat that would frequently walk several feet on his rear legs and his brother loved to have his belly scratched. We found them abandoned when they were about a week old and raised them by hand. It would be fascinating to find out if their clones would do the same if raised in a nearly identical environment.
I would clone my dog, cat, goldfish and even myself!
Honestly, no I would not. Just because you're cloning them doesn't mean they are going to be exactly the same. They might look the same, but they are not going to have to same disposition. They will also never be able to take the place of the original pet. I would only do it if I was guaranteed they would be the same in every single way ...
No, I would not. For three reasons: 1) the cost of cloning is ridiculously expensive. 2) clones that have been born/created have turned out either to be sickly or have other physical problems that result in them having shorter life spans than other animals and 3) there are simply too many homeless cats and dogs that need a good home, are readily available and would love you so much.
Below is a website that discusses the ethics of cloning animals.

no because it's against my religon
I would say no. I love my dog but I only want one of him. He can be the only Angus. I would much prefer to love another animal for who they truly are and knowing that a dog is a clone is not the same for me.
