Just like humans Dogs are mammals, Dogs yawn for the same reason that humans yawn. It could be a sign of tiredness, but it does not always mean a person or animal is tired. Yawning is a way mammals increase the flow of oxygen to the brain and that increases the heart rate. Another reason a dog may yawn is from excitement. Getting excited can quickly increase the heart rate which causes the need for more oxygen, and well the Yawn is the perfect action to get that oxygen.

My question to this question is this:
If watching a dog yawn makes me yawn, then would a dog also yawn when watching a human yawn?
(crap! now I'm yawning just thinking about it!)
