We've owned several labs - and they all seem to have their own different needs for exercise. A good rule of thumb is that labs need at least 30 mins of exercise at least 3 times of day if they do not have a yard to run in. If the do have a yard, then running/walking them 2 times for 30 mins (1-2 miles) should be sufficient. Depending upon your habitat, making sure that they can run/exercise in the morning and in the evening is important. The age of your lab is important as well. We have had two lab pups (1 yr old) that require running almost 10 miles a day on the beach. These were dogs that did not have a yard to run in. The way we gauged how much they needed to run was how much energy they had left when we got to the house. Our older labs only needed to walk 1-2 miles a day...because they were older. Try walking your dog 1-2 miles in the morning and evening. That should do the trick.

I know what you mean. Candidly - our last two labs have 10 miles a day...full tilt - and we always sense they could run more. We took to riding them with them on our bikes on the beach so they could run faster - and still they have had energy left to spare. They can run 5 miles in the AM and think nothing of coming back to rough-house and play for another hour at the house with each other. I think the big difference for us is that they don't have a large yard to run and play in. Our other labs seemed to be fine and find great satisfaction just running around in the yard. Our new labs haven't had that opportunity. They have been completely dependent upon us to make sure they get to exercise. If your dog is 1-2 years old in particular - There's a good chance you are finding yourself in the same boat we're in. We're working to run them longer - and to give them chances to realllllly run and play. It's a pretty big commitment of time and energy - but it's what seems necessary so that they are happy, content and not stir-crazy.

labradors are energetic dogs, delighted to work hard and play.they need to be taken on a daily ,brisk, long walk, jog or run alongside you when you bicycle

they will be in their glory if you give them a job to do.labs are big eaters and need regular exercise and moderate rations to avoid a tendancy to become overweight

Chocolate labradors love to swim, and also like to go for a walk. So, if you have a swimming pool, it's great to watch these dogs go for a swim for a few minutes, yet you would have to dry them off. Swimming can be great exercise for the dog in the warmer summer months, and certainly will cool the dog off. Since chocolate labradors are very energetic and playful dogs, you should walk your dog for at least an 30 minutes up to an hour a day. If you walk him for 30 minutes and it seems like he still has more energy in him for a longer walk, then you can try 45 minutes. Try going in 15 minute increments until you find a good time to walk your dog.

It would be a good thing to walk your Labrador everyday even if he has a large yard. Labs are energetic and enjoy being active, playing games, and participating in activities like flyball, agility, swimming, tracking, and obedience. They especially enjoy ball and retrieving games like fetch.
