I think there is some confusion on the type of pig you are talking about buying. Most pig breeds, such as yorkshires, grow very large and can top out at hundreds of pounds when full grown. These pigs are found mostly on farms are are feeder pigs. A Chinese Potbellied Pig is a smaller breed of pig that, although rare, can make great pets. It's important that you research this kind of pet so that you know the pro's and con's that go along with it. Then if you are sure you still do want a Potbellied Pig, I would not get it from a pet store. You are better off getting one from a breeder or rescue because just like puppies from pet stores, these pigs come from places that "mill" them out. If you have ever heard of puppymills, well pet stores get their pigs from "pigmills". A reputable breeder or rescue is going to help match you up with the right pig and you will have a much better chance of not getting stuck with an unhealthy pet.

Here are some great resources for you to start with:

Good Luck!

Don't, unless you're prepared for life with a pig! Here's a great site on the realities of life with a cute "little" porker...

Don't.

They are really cute.

Unfortunately they grow up.

Pigs have about the intelligence of dogs. This being said, like all animals, they grow up, except pigs can often grow up to VERY large sizes (several hundred pounds). If you have a child you may want to reconsider. Pigs can be a bit "nippy" and are notoriously hard to train (despite their intelligence). In addition, they eat more and deficate MUCH more than your typical household pet.

If you have plenty of room, no kids and want an interesting pet, it might be worth a look, but for most people, they aren't the best choice for a household animal.

No pets should be bought from a pet shop!

Just be aware that no matter how cute he looks now, he will quite likely become very large when he reaches adulthood, so be prepared.
