My experience with raccoons comes from the point of view of a farmer/gardener; they can be very destructive. Aside from that, they are intelligent, and fascinating creatures in the wild. Before you entertain any ideas about keeping one as a pet, be aware that in many (if not all) states, you have to obtain special permits to keep one. They are after all, a species of wildlife and not a domestic pet. You also should contact your local veterinarian to ascertain whether they can care for/treat a raccoon, and if so, what the vaccination requirements are, and what illnesses/diseases they can carry or contract. Ferrets have many of the same characteristics without the permiting issues...
