Is it normal for a betta fish to swim around a little and then rest at the bottom of the tank totally still?

I've had my fish for three days now and he was really active at first. He would swim all over the tank and it looked at if he was trying to escape. Today, he's started hanging out on the floor of the tank, and not even his side fins move. Also, when he swims, it looks a little jerky. He'll go left, switch right, and then switch left again back and forth very quickly. Is something wrong?

They tend to act funky when the water temp drops. Bettas are a big fan of warm water (over 80 degrees).

According to the linked information: "Bettas thrive on heat, and will become increasingly listless when the water temperature falls below 75 degrees F"

It sounds pretty normal. My betta stays toward the bottom of the bowl. Just make sure the water in the bowl is clean, room temperature and your betta is always fed,

Yes, this is totally normal. Betta's are pretty mellow and low maintenence - till there's another betta around. Every betta I've had is like that. He's okay!!
