Is chocolate dangerous for cats? I know chocolate can kill a dog by damaging its liver, but does this go for cats too?

I have this six month old kitten and it appears to like chocolate, she scoffs it right down, but knowing what I know about the danger to dogs, should I avoid giving it to my cat?

Yes, chocolates are dangerous for your pet cat because it contains contains a form of methylated xanthine that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and excessive urination.

Yes, it is dangerous for a cat just like it is for a dog. Also just like with dogs, the most dangerous forms are baking chocolate and semi-sweet chips.
How much will hurt them depends on many factors, including their own tolerance for theobromine and the cats' weight.

Theobrimine affects a cat in 4 ways:
It increases the rate and force of contractions of the heart.
It acts as a diuretic, causing your pet to lose body fluids.
It affects the gastrointestinal system, causing vomiting and diarrhea and it may cause stomach ulcers.
It acts on the nervous system, causing convulsions, seizures and sometimes, death.

If you've found your cat eating chocolate call your vet. Just because she likes it, it doesn't mean it's good for her.

Yes, avoid giving it to her. Happily enough it's easier keeping them away from chocolate than it is keeping us away from it. :)
