The Humane Society also launched a bunch of Facebook applications and games where you can play the games and raise money for different animal causes. There are also some trivia games that do the same - the ones I've used are http://savepups.com and http://savekitties.com.
Those are a few options for you to help get the word out and raise money without leaving your home.
If you want to leave your home, I'd suggest joining the e-mail lists for the Humane Society, PETA, and ASPCA. I'm on all of them and they send out emails all the time with different things you can do -- from writing letters to government officials, to participating in marches, etc. That can keep you pretty darn occupied!
Finally, you could always think about rescuing a dog or cat from a shelter. A friend of mine has rescued a couple of dogs in San Francisco (through an organization called Rocket Dog Rescue). Those dogs would have been killed had she not rescued them... What greater gift can you give an animal than the gift of life in a loving home!

Many shelters also post on Craigslist regularly with pictures and details of animals that need a home very soon, or they will not be able to keep them. Your local shelters may need someone who is willing to share an hour or two each week to do these postings. Craigslist is a great, free resource to help our friends find "forever" homes.
Start a blog about your local shelters! Getting the word out about animals who need homes is important. It is just as important to get the word out about donations that are needed by the shelters. Posting hours, animals that might be available for adoption and their needs to your blog and others will take a few hours of your time, but will not cost anything. Free blogs are available from Blogspot and Wordpress.

Helping out at animal shelters may not be "cool", but I can't tell you how important it is. These are typically not well-funded facilities, and volunteers make all the difference. Thanks for doing this!
However, if you want to do something a bit "cooler", why not volunteer at a zoo? I know there are animal rights concerns with zoos, but it would be good to learn the down-and-dirty needs and issues surrounding animals there. Who knows? It may lead to personal expertise on the ring-tailed lemur or some other interesting beast, furthering its interests.
Finally, non-profits need help beside money. Find an animal specific non-profit and see what you can do to help. Maybe you can pick up trash on the side of the road so the group can sponsor/advertise on a portion of the road. Get involved, be regular and serious about contributing your efforts, and you will be welcome.

If you have a passion for animals, one thing you can do that does not take any financial resources is to write letters to your local congressmen/women to urge them to pass legislation to protect animal rights. The government sets many of the rules for what is considered humane and inhumane treatment of animals, and this trickels down into many farming and animal related industries. Its sad that commercialization and capitalism often dictates what "we" as people consider ethical and humane. That is why we need motivated individuals as yourself that can help change laws that don't properly look after the rights of innocent animals. Besides writing letters on your own behalf, if you can get signatures from other people in your neighborhood or city, that will be even better.
Working through legislative channels may not always be the sexiest way to help, but your impact could be huge! All it takes is a little time and dedication. Best of luck to you young cesarmira!
