I don't let my dog eat grass when I walk him. Should I let him do it or not?

I'm affraid it will make him sick. People tell me all the time that all dogs do it so I don't know what the right thing to do is.

hi, I'm not a vet, but I know a couple, very well.

They say, don't let them eat grass because:
1. it could have pesticides on it
2. it could have systemic herbicides on it
3. there could be worms, parasites from other wild or domestic animals on it
4. too much grass can cause some animals to have painful (or problematic gas)

Another vet I know noted that some dogs eat grass when they feel sick. They do this to help themselves throw up. You might want to see if that applies to your doggie, in a vet checkup. :)

Next time you're at your vet for a checkup or shots, ask him or her what you should do about grass eating! good luck!

sorry. but it is not a legend. It is something a person should discuss with their vet. By the way, with respect, we have 2 in our family, and also several RNs and several Medical Doctors. ............ Peace and out

I would'nt let him eat grass on walks. Dogs tend to do this to settle their stomachs when they are feeling sick, to help them bring the food back up, they also eat grass to help them digest their food, but if you don't know which yards have been treated with chemicals, this could cause him problems.

If your dog is eating grass that means it has a stomach ache. It lets them "throw up". Relieves there stomach.
