Well not all pitbulls eat a lot! It all depends on age, exercise and the type of food. Of course pets with lots of exercise will need to consume more calories to maintain their body and young, growing dogs will need more to help their bodies reach their optimum size. Type of food is something that is a big part of how much they eat. If the pet food is full of fillers (non or partially digestable carbohydrates or fiber) not all of the food will not be used and just be excreted therefore the pet must eat more of the food to get exactly what it needs.

How much a pit bull eats depends on many factors: its inherited metabolism, its condition, its activity level, its age, and the type of food its fed. My pit bulls didn't eat as much as many other breeds that I have owned. They were fed a high quality natural dry food, and had average activity levels. If you have a pit bull that is loose in a fenced back yard, and spends his day running back and forth and barking at unseen intruders then he's apt to burn a lot of calories. They also have a higher muscle mass than many breeds, and more muscle burns more calories.
