Sadly, the disease is fatal. Your veterinarian can work with you to provide supportive care. My experience gives more weight to FIP infection being more genetic than environmental. It tends to present in very young and very old cats. FIP has a variety of forms. I have dealt with wet form, central nervous system and occular forms. There is not strong evidence that the available vaccine is useful.

I am not a veterinarian, just a cat rescuer and owner who has experienced loss of a pet from FIP. FIP is a very frustrating feline disease. It is only diagnosed by a process of elimination. There is now specific test for it, although some blood test can indicate possible FIP infection. The only way to confirm a diagnosis is post-mortum. Sadly, the disease is fatal.
