Can a hawk carry away a Shih Tzu? just wondering...

Probably not. A full grown adult hawk such as the Red Tailed Hawk might have a 54 inch wingspan and grow to weigh 3.5 pounds. Adult hawks can carry about half to one third their body weight. A typical Shih Tzu might weigh between 9 and 16 pounds making it very difficult for a hawk to carry away a full grown Shih Tzu. Hawks usually hunt squirrels or other small game.

Maybe not a full-grown shih-tzu, but if it is still a puppy, it might be closer to squirrel-sized and only weight a pound or two.

At 8 weeks old, when you would be taking the Shih Tzu puppy home, the healthy weight of said puppy would be at LEAST 2 pounds.
Still quite unlikely that a hawk would prey upon one being that 2 pounds is more than half the body weight of the full grown hawk.

My Shih Tzu weighed 3.45 pounds at his first vet visit with me at 9 weeks old

You're right Bud. A hawk is a beautiful and strong raptor, but not that strong.
If you talking about a hawk stealing a baby Chihuahua... now that might be possible!

Depending on the breed of hawk, they can grab something as large as a rabbit for dinner!
