Hi, How about adopting one! Contact any Chicago area Dachshund rescue group:
Here is a link http://www.mwdr.org/dogs.asp to the MidWest Dachshund Rescue, lots of great resources there for you to find a wonderful purebred dog looking for a forever family.
Another group; Almost Home Dachshund Rescue is listed in this directory http://www.dachsie.org/drc.html
Also here's a link to Chicago Dachshund Lovers - a group of 'doxie and doxie mix' owners who meet monthly.

Whatever you do, make sure you find a really good breeder and ask lots of questions. Any breeder that meets you in a parking lot with a truck filled with crates is a bad breeder that is only looking for money. I got a dachshund (god bless her soul), with a bad leg and bad back, and although I don't regret all the love I got, it pains me to see bad breeding. Any good breeder will have a very clean house that is mopped 3 times a day, and is willing to let you see the dogs in their home. Also, a breeder who truly cares about dogs will be as judgmental about the person buying the dog (in other words, that you will truly care for the dog).
Just google "doxie breeders illinois", and preferably find a listing that offers feedback. I found a great breeder in freedom, WI. It was a bit of a drive, but worth it.
