Most of it is going to into diversified savings and investments, while I think more about what I want to do with it. In the coming year, there probably are going to good deals to be had on property and some stocks that are going to be great investments that you can pick up at bargain prices. But I wouldn't do any of that just yet, as prices are going to fall further.
Some of it is probably going to go into a boring old pension fund, because there are holes there that need to be filled.
Also, I want to keep a fair slice of the money reasonably liquid as I may want to invest it in some ventures of my own.
But if I've suddenly come into a $1m tax free, I definitely have to do a little celebrating as well, and sharing the good fortune.
So I think I might treat my parents, my sisters and their families (my brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews) to a grand adventure. Maybe it'd be Disneyland to thrill the nieces, or an African safari that I know my dad would love.
And I guess just a little would go on a few tech toys that I can't really justify, but would be fun.
But the vast majority of the million would go into investments of one kind or another, and I'd breathe a big sigh of relief at the extra security and freedom that would bring.

As much as I would want to blow the money on fun toys I would probably use part of it to purchase a house... pay off my bills... and the rest would be invested in some way. While I know this is boring in the end $1,000,000 is not enough money to just waste away since it is not likely that would be enough money to live off of for the rest of my life.

I would pay off both car notes, mortgage, and our camper. From there, I'd install new flooring in the house - wall to wall. Add an extra bedroom and bathroom to the house, and fly my mom here and build her a house in town. (Not next door, sorry mom, we'd drive each other nuts!) I'd probably spend about 30 grand on stupid stuff, just because I could. I'd put up the rest in a high interest savings account, would never ever invest it. (All that stuff scares me!)
I would keep my job, because for some crazy reason I love it!

A high interest savings account is still a form of "investment" really... not all investing has to be scary :)

Durn you! You always make me think! Which I suppose is a good thing. Ok, it's an investment that would be FDIC insured if I spit it up between 2 banks after I go on my spending spree :-)

I work for Mahalo as a remote guide! The hours are awesome, the other remote guides are totally fantastic, and where else can I get paid to write spoilers for trashy reality television shows! :-)

I would actually buy a huge farm on a piece of property and take in all the animals nobody else wants. That is after I pay off every single bill I have ever accumulated and made sure my family was well taken care of. Oh and I would probably just go hog wild for one wild and crazy day of shopping!
