What are good audition songs for a pop-oriented a capella vocal group?

Hi, I was called back for the girl's a cappella group at my high school. For call backs, we need to prepare thirty seconds of a song that we believe demonstrates our talent. Since this group sings a lot of pop and more modern types of music than the other groups at my school, it would make sense to prepare a song of one of those genres. I am a Soprano One swing Alto One and am most comfortable singing within the middle to middle- high range of my voice. My full range is from a low A to a high C. However, I don't want to come anywhere near that high C, or even a B flat.

So if anyone could suggest songs for me that would be wonderful. Extra love if you know the starting pitch and key.

How about Keane. Perfect Symmetry requires range, pitch and power.

Like with galaxybrowser's answer, nice song, but not feminine enough for this group. Thanks.

By feminine, do you mean because of the pitch or the topics? They can get quite girly sometimes in many aspects.

Sorry, I probably should have been a bit more clear about what I meant by "pop and modern style" in the description. The group performs a lot of songs that could fit into the "oldies" category(like from the Supremes), and there repertoire is more pop (in that sense) than pop-rock.

Good songs, but I think I need something a bit more feminine.

You could try "Never Ever" by All Saints. That's a pretty nice song and has 4 female parts. Maybe even "California Dreaming" by the Mamma's and Pappa's.

Good luck with your band!

The Flying Pickets - Only You

The Flying Pickets is a British a cappella vocal group, that had a surprise Christmas number one hit in 1983 in the UK singles chart, with their cover of Yazoo’s track - “Only You”. Allison Moyet of Yazoo is one of my favorite female vocalist in the eighties.

The Flying Pickets - Only You Lyrics

Looking from a window above
It’s like a story of love
Can you hear me.
Came back only yesterday
Moving further away
Won’t you hear me.
* ( All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
All I ever knew
Only you )
Sometimes when I think of your name
And it’s only a game
And I need you
Listening to the words that you say
Getting harder to stay
When I see you
* Repeat ( 2 times )
This is gonna take a long time
And I wonder what’s mine
Can’t take no more
Wonder if you’ll understand
It’s just the touch of your hand
Behind a closed door
* Repeat

If you're up for a challenge you could try En Vouge's My Lovin'.

I also think that the old Destiny's Child stuff can be fun, 'Bills, Bills, Bills' etc.

I know that one time my group did an a capella version of Sarah McLachlan's 'Angel'. We harmonized it ourselves but it really showed off the voices.
