PEOPLE GET READY! Is this the best video of this song EVER?
.
.
.
.
This version with Jeff Beck and Joss Stone blows me away. Sure, I could comb through all of the "related videos", but (a) I wanted to share this with you; and (b) I wanted to know if you have a favorite version. I'd love to see your reactions, see your favorites, read your reasons, etc.
Beautiful song, and this version features great and soulful guitar and vocals, and the audio is great for YouTube.
Curtis Mayfield wrote it, and many followed The Impressions in covering it: Bob Marley, The Doors, Aretha Franklin, and on and on.
Here are the lyrics, and a link to some of the history of this song:
People get ready, there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket you just thank the lord
People get ready, there's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved the most
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner whom would hurt all mankind
Just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there is no hiding place against the kingdom's throne
People get ready there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, just thank the lord.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Wow such a beautiful song and no one from mahalo has answered this. Why? As you said doubleminaz the version you have posted really do justice to the song. I have heard this song while i was growing up but i did not know the history to the song. Thanks for the posting when i listen to this song i think of another song that i really love "Sinner Man" sung by Nina Simone. I think my favorite version is the one done by Alicia Keys. The reason why i think about Nina Simone song "Sinnerman" i think it represents the opposite of what "PEOPLE GET READY" represents. I have posted the song Sinnerman below please enjoy.

I just set up a YouTube channel for "Best Video Version Ever", to post our nominees to. Please check it out, and give me any suggestions (I haven't tried this before): http://www.youtube.com/doubleminaz (I guess it automatically assumes any link from YouTube is a video; sorry about the big, empty space.)
Wow, what a great version, arg, and a great answer! Thanks! I love Alicia, and I think her version would have won my vote if she had had a guitar virtuoso in there! And, thanks for throwing the Nina Simone bonus in there - I've already listened to it twice!
Curious. I had chosen this as best answer a couple of days ago, made a comment and actually saw the page update. Possible glitch.
