doin power of atom. told sheriff and burke killed him now i dont have fusion and cant complete quest help?

when u talk to burke and he gives u the device, u can tell the sheriff. i did then he talked to burke then he shot him, no prob i saved. but now im a while into the game and it seems the fusion device is missing. any idea where it could hav gone to? thanks

If you told the sheriff, then you betrayed Burke and you won't be able to complete the quest by blowing up Megaton, hence you don't need the fusion pulse charge. You might as well kill Burke and then go ahead and disarm the bomb. Once you do, you will be able to talk to the sheriff's son who will give you your reward for completing the quest.
