Timothy was from Macedonia. He was of mixed Jewish and Gentile heritage. Paul converted him. He was the apostles companion on missionary journeys, and was sent on special missions. He is described as the administrator of the Ephesians. St Paul's letters to Timothy and to Titus are concerned with the work of a pastor in caring for communities or communities under his charge (to those who shepherd congregations). Timothy's principal motive was preservation of the purity of the church's doctrine against false teaching.
