Partition a hard drive in DOS without reformatting completely

I need a program that I can boot off of a CD that will allow me to create a new partition in an already formatted hard drive. I have the "Ultimate boot CD" but I haven't bee able to find anything that will do what I need. The best I can do is create a 2MB partition but then I can't resize it... Please help!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I use PartedMagic: http://partedmagic.com/ It is a free LiveCD that allows you to run GParted without installing any software on your computer. GParted is a very powerful partitioning tool that will allow you to resize your partitions without loosing data or reformating. It also has built in networking support and Firefox so you can look up instructions if you need help without rebooting into Windows.

I've used it, and it works great!

PartitionMagic will do what you're after. You'll need to create a "rescue disk", but instructions are included.

For free, you can also do it with qtparted under Knoppix:

+1 for both Partition Magic and QTparted.

If you want to run QTparted (it's free and does the same job as Partition Magic), download the Ark Linux (http://www.arklinux.org/) LiveCD. After you burn the CD, boot your computer from the CD and run QTparted. No installation, no fuss, no muss.

You can also use the System Rescue CD http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page which is free. The tool used by System Rescue is called GParted.

I fully agree with this. It's free, and it's just as effective as Partition Magic (more-so, in my opinion). Kudos!
