It depends on how many you are capable of taking care of. There is no number that you should (or shouldn't) have. A good thing to think about is "Would it be good for them?". If you are overextended, it's not good for them, but you shouldn't put a limit on yourself.

How many children is too many?
One family in the U.S. just had their 18th child. They don't get any kind of assistance and have several businesses. Another family in Canada has 19.
How many children do you think is too many? For you? For others? Should something be done? If so, by whom?

More than two is too many. In an already overpopulated world, having enough children to 'replace' you and your partner is perfectly fine. Having a birth rate of zero (meaning that the population holds steady) isn't a bad idea when we don't have enough food on the planet to feed everyone. Agritechnology goes a long way to increase the 'bang for our buck', but we have to let it catch up, instead of running away from it by having absurd numbers of children.

I personally believe that no matter how good a parent you are, if you have more than 5 or 6 kids, there is no way you are able to care for them the same as if you have less, and maintain a good relationship with your partner. I believe that in large families siblings parent each other,a nd although they learn valuable life skills from this, I don't believe it is fair. Why would anyone want 15 or 16 kids?
