hi, well, practice driving. Be alert. Remember you are driving a 2000 lb. machine :) and be thoughtful to others on the road.
Get a solid, sturdy car, hopefully 5 years old or less. With a good history (ask to see records), models such as Honda, Toyota, etc. Get some good tires, car insurance. Make friends with your local car repair dealer, so they give you good repair and service rates! ...... good luck and drive safe! :)

Stick with a used Toyota, Honda or VW. They are much more reliable than the domestics. I recommend to not buy new for your first car. Search Craig's List and buy from an individual, not a dealer.
