If you attend a place of worship you might also try volunteering in the children's ministry there. I know mine is always looking for volunteers. That may help you get to know the parents. You can let the parents know you are looking for work in the area so they can help you spread the word. They may even use you themselves.
If you don't attend a place of worship you might try volunteering with other children's activities in your community such as the boys club or girls club.
Networking and word of mouth are usually very good ways to find employment in those types of jobs.
Good luck.
