Reading your details, it appear that you are not after a painting circa 100 AD but rather a painting depicting Ancient Rome which is a quite different thing. My favorite Old Master is Sir Peter Paul Rubens. Here is a famous painting of his depicting an ancient Roman scene, a Triumph (victory parade) in his characteristic style.

I agree with Albanian's reading of your question. I would have to say da Vinci's Last Supper gets my vote. It is about the Roman Period. As you said, you're looking for "a famous painting by a famous artist whose topic is a person, scene, deity, battle or city of the ancient Roman period (100 BCE - 450 AD)." Da Vinci and his painting are about as famous as you can get.

If you are looking for paintings that were created back in approximately 100AD, you will find a lot of them are frescoes used in building decoration, and most were taken from the ruins of Pompeii. They are some of the few survivors of Roman paintings from so far back. Here are some of your options:

(ARTISTS UNKNOWN)

But if you are looking for paintings DEPICTING Rome in about 100AD, here are some good options.

This is "Entrance to a Roman Theatre", by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema in 1866, which portrays the streets of Pompeii just outside a theater.

This is "The Atrium of the Maisonne Pompienne", by Gustave Boulanger, portraying a time of lounging in an atrium in Pompeii. (c. 1860s)

And this is "The Battle of Milvian Bridge" by Raphael, 1524. The battle scene depicted actually took place in 312AD.

You will find that since so many paintings from that original era were destroyed by damage, war, and time, few modern paintings of the era nail down a precise year which they depict.

Good luck.

Painted from 1830 to 1833, The Last Days of Pompeii is a rather romanticized view of the destruction of the famous Roman city. Nonetheless, this painting and its historical theme earned Karl Briullov (1799-1852) fame as one of Europe's greatest painters of the time.
