I have been using the incandescent daylight bulbs myself. But I too have been doing research into the lighting issue. I personally do not light the regular florescent bulbs. Something about them make my pigments not look right to me.
I saw & heard that there are 'blue' florescent out there that are pretty good that I saw at the hair studio. However, they are pretty pricey themselves (the wiring in this house keeps blowing lightbulbs including the florescent ones). Besides I can't find them in regular places to even see a side by side comparison. Or sure of what they are called exactly.
Then there is the Ott light. This is the one I am really interested in. Once again pricey. You cannot put one of these bulbs into a regular light socket. You must also buy the light fixture which is also a chunk of change. and I haven't seen any replacement bulbs readily available anywhere local. I just checked these lights out at the store. I'm liking it. I'm really leaning this way myself. I went to Office Depot to see them in person.

Do daylight bulbs (for artists) come in an environmentally friendly variety?
Artists use daylight bulbs to avoid the yellow tint of an ordinary bulb, but I have only ever come across incandescent bulbs, is there and environmentally friendly bulb that will do the same thing?

These can also be found at a variety of arts & crafts stores, sewing/fabric stores, and art supply stores both online and locally. Here's an online link to an Ottlite that may work for you: http://www.dickblick.com/products/ott-lite-truecolor-clip-on-lamp/

Any fluorescent bulb (The kind with the spiral tubes rather than a bulb) is considered environmentally friendly b/c they use less energy and last longer. Fluorescent "daylight" bulbs seem fairly easy to find online. There are a few links below or you can just do a google search. http://www.rewci.com/coflbu14ware.html
