What is the best assault rifle for women who don't have much experience shooting guns?

I want something that is fun to shoot and low maintenance that I can take to the range and have fun with on weekends.

I want to get one soon in case they bring back the assault weapon ban.

"The Fusil Automatique Léger (Light Automatic Rifle) or FAL is a 7.62x51 NATO self-loading, selective fire rifle produced by the Belgian armaments manufacturer Fabrique Nationale de Herstal (FN) during the Cold War, and adopted by many North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries. It has also been adopted by many other nations for their armed forces and has proven to be a popular civilian rifle for hunting and sport shooting. The FN FAL was also produced under license in many of the adopting countries. Because of its prevalence and widespread use among the armed forces of many Western and other non-Communist countries during the Cold War, it was nicknamed "the right arm of the Free World".

My sister loved her Feather Industries AT-22. I'm not the one she owns is still made, but looking at Feather's website, they have a .22 weapon that looks like it would be a lot of fun: the RAV-22

Bonus: .22 ammo is cheap and plentiful. Always a consideration if you are visiting the range regularly.

As an aside, the AT-22 was very accurate with virtually no kick. My sister was in her early teens when she started using it at the range, and it quickly became a favorite amongst family and friends. With a cheap scope, it was child's play (literally) to hit targets 300 ft out.

I just have to say it:

IF you do not have much experience shooting guns, I don't think you should be looking at assault rifles. Become skilled and respectful of what you have then expand.

Guns are not a toy.

I agree they are not toys. A person should always exercise proper gun control. And, by that I mean being aware of your soundings and hitting your target every time.

May I ask your reason for wanting one? Is it for the range as assumed or for hunting (please don't say ex-boyfriend)?
