Why isn't Daniel Day Lewis presenting the award for best actor in a leading role at the Oscars?

According to USA today, Day-Lewis and Bardem were no shows because:

• Best actor Daniel Day-Lewis just wrapped the movie musical Nine and is back home in Ireland after being gone four months. "He was exhausted and been away already from his family," says his representative, Leslee Dart.

• Supporting actor Javier Bardem was tied up in Barcelona filming Alejandro González Inarritu's Biutiful.
