Who Will Win – Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). I think Slumdog is going to sweep the Oscars, with no exception in this category.
Who Should Win – Gus Van Sant (Milk). I say this because I think this was a difficult film to direct. He did a marvelous job.
If you haven't seen Boyle's film 'Sunshine' or Van Sant's film 'Elephant', you should definitely check them out!

I don't mind Danny Boyle winning (and he probably does deserve it), but a strong case could be made for David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) because of the difficulty of directing a story which is complex and involves a character's entire lifespan.

I believe Slumdog Millionaire's Danny Boyle will win because the story itself (even the look of the movie) is so UNIQUE. I don't mind Danny Boyle winning (and he probably does deserve it), but a strong case could be made for David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) because of the difficulty of directing a story which is complex and involves a character's entire lifespan.
