I'm a little bit of an origami expert; currently I'm working on the Thousand Paper Cranes project in memory of Sadako, who attempted this feat while suffering from leukaemia due to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. I also have a website on how to do origami (http://www.howtodoorigami.net).
For beginners, I would definitely recommend 'Easy Origami' by John Montroll. There are over 32 different designs and it's an extremely cheap book too (you can buy it from Amazon for $3.95 through this link: http://locatereviews.com/1258059431).
Good luck in your origami quest!
