More severe contractions, where the eyelid completely closes, are possible. These can be caused by irritation of the surface of the eye (cornea) or the membranes lining the eyelids (conjunctiva).
Sometimes, the reason your eyelid is twitching cannot be identified. This form of eyelid twitching lasts much longer, is often very uncomfortable, and can also cause your eyelids to close completely.
Rare Causes:
The offical US government definition of a "rare" disease is one that affects 200,000 people or less. The following causes of Eyelid twitching in children appear in the population at a rate of less than 200,000 people per year in the USA:
- Aicardi syndrome

- Corenal abrasion
- Corneal ulcer
- Dry eyes

I sometimes experience the twitching during times when I am stressed out. I always worry if I am in a meeting how obvious it is to people I am talking with. Here is an article that gives some ideas:

I think the main reason it happens for most people is eye strain. If you're using the computer a lot and you notice it, take a break. Remember, a fifteen minute break per hour of computer use is recommended.
