OPEN THREAD: Patrick Kane arrested over cab fare?

Chicago Blackhawks star and 2007 first-overall draft pick Patrick Kane was reportedly arrested in Buffalo NY early this morning over cab fare...

Kane and his cousin allegedly became upset that the driver didn't have the 20 cents change for their $13.80 fare and grabbed him by the neck, breaking his glasses.

Now, Patrick Kane makes a bunch of money, so for him to assault someone over 20 cents seems a bit fishy. Thoughts?

Hi

I read that he and his cousin got arrested at 5am close to a College ... so Im thinking they might have come back from a club or a Bar or a Party and were heading to another one !
To be ticking out like this ( as the Cab driver claims ) you have to be either very drunk or high !
To be honest there could be 2 reasons for this :

Either him and his Cousin were drunk or high or the Cab driver told him that he had enough money as it is anyways and he shouldn't be such a stinch and just forget the change.
I guess the Cab driver said something that ticked him off. I doubt that he just flips out for no reason unless he has some extreme anger issues and was drunk !

Maybe the Cap driver got robbed and recognized him and figured he can make some money of of him.

Either way something must happened to tick him off and I dont think we will find out until the news reveal what happened for sure - I read that he pleaded not guilty on Sunday !

I do believe the incident happen but it did not happen they way the cab driver said it happen. There was an argument that led to violence. It was not over twenty cents.

Ugh, it's really sad considering the guy is so young. The guy has already earned over $20 Million in his young career and he can't spare 20 cents.

Here is the TSN report and a statement from the Cab driver.

If he really did this over 20 cents I think he has serious issues. More than likely, there is more to this story than just this. If not, he had to be high on something.

At first blush you would hear this story and say unbelievable, but no, it's very believable. Anyone who has known NHL players, or even pro athletes, knows how cheap these bastards are.

I have known a few NHL guys over the years, a few very kind and thoughtful, but most of the ones I knew were skunks....some of the worst scumbags you'll ever meet anywhere.

That's why I hardly watch pro sports anymore - I can't stomach the sight of these bastards.

This Kane punk needs a good beating. I knew he wasn't worth a lick of salt when he said he had never played outdoor hockey in his life despite having grown up in Buffalo! And even that is very believable when you consider this punk's reputation around the league as a mama's boy.

Hopefully Georges Laraque can pound some sense into him this season. That would be nice.

While there is absolutely no excuse for this type of crap, 20 and 21 yr old kids are not necessarily known for their maturity. I wish they would have some sort of adult guidance that would advise them to stand up like men, (not hide behind lawyers) admit their foolish acts, and apologize to the cabby and all fans. Kids do stupid things, but men will face the consequences without whining. Come on, we're waiting......

The story I read, he had left the bar district, so they were probably drunk and things escalated. Maybe they were being drunk and obnoxious and the driver didn't like that, then they got in a fight over the tip? My guess is both sides played a part, but probably not to the point of assault. But I applaud him for not driving drunk like other celebrities. My guess is most charges get dropped or it pleas out to misdemeanor assault or disorderly conduct once the entire story comes out.

This is crazy. He is 20 and was drunk, he did a stupid act and now he is going to face big charges. For one underage drinking. Which as i read it was a misunderstanding therer fare was 13.60 and he wanted change for 15.00 which still isnt much money to get in a fight over but it was not just 20 cents. But still yet this sounds fishy, i just cannot seem to believe that a millionare would get in a fight over 20 cents or 2 dollars. The best thing to do is just wait untill the evidence comes out before we all blame patrick.
