Charlie Morris is a criminal. Not just a spur of the moment kind, he knew what he was doing and he hid in the shroud of law enforcement. He headed the shreiff's association for 12 years and to make matters worse while he was committing these crimes he was also setting on the board that disciplines law enforcement officers who commit crimes. He had a partner in crime Teresa Adams, his director of administration. These crimes went on to the tune of $194,002 in bonuses, $115,500 was returned in kickbacks. He was busted while he was in Las Vegas, he had 5k in his pockets and 30 k in a safe in his room. Some reports say he was addicted to gambling, I think he just liked the money because with large amounts come power. The Feds only busted the pair and did not bring charges up on anyone else. I think they gave the others amensty for there information and cooperation.
Which means that the other warrents issued by the state are founded.Along with Morris and Adams, three former employees - Chief Deputy Michael Coup, finance officer Sandra Norris and information officer David Yacks - were charged with racketeering by state prosecutors. Employee Sabra Thornton was charged with theft. Do you really think it stopped here? Anyone who got a bonus and then was asked to return some of it in cash or cashiers check is guilty also. Who gets bonuses and then gives back part of it that way and not smell a rat? As far as I am concerned there are a lot more people involved in this. I think that the sentence he received 71 months, being one month short of the max is just one month short of what he deserved. He scarred the image of all the sheriffs in the State of Florida and they will be the ones to face the public and try to win back that trust, not him. I am waiting to see what the State sentence will be and how many more unnamed people will be involved.
