To answer your question, I have read some of Steele's works and he seems to be very vulgar and makes things appear as though if you don't do what he says than your not going to be a "man".
For example, in one of his pieces on getting fit for women, he states, "The only way to become someone she’d like on top of her is to eat less and exercise more."
To me, this is a very vulgar comment, and when someone with an unstable mind (such as Sodini) reads this, he is not only turned on by the image of a woman wanting him "on top" of her but also challenged to be that man who is fit and healthy.
Reading further into Steele's work I cam across other statements such as, "Gut it out for six months and you’ll never, ever go back to junk. You’ll feel smarter, younger and more like a MAN. The added benefit is that young women think you’re cool if you’re health conscious because many of them are."
A person like Sodini must have taken this as a direct challenge and when he could not simply "gut it out for six months" and felt as though he wasn't a "MAN" because he couldn't do it, he probably snapped in frustration.
This is by no means the know-all end-all solution, it is simply my opinion on the matter after having read some of Steele's works.

He has made his living for the last 20 years as an author and speaker on matters of the heart..
but his website states: other passions include a deep, abiding hatred for hypocrites, bureaucrats, poverty pimps and nearly all politicians;
That is probably closer to his true self than any of the "romance" advice he could ever give.
