Online Research.

What is the best way to find obscure information online?

Eg. Let's say say I wanted to find out how many of the presidents cabinet members have ties to the Monsanto corporation.

Ideal answer to include examples of common ways you would perform advanced searches...Please.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here is a list of good sites providing accurate and reliable information on wide range of subjects that are otherwise "mistreated" by the so-called mainstream media:

The Memory Hole:
http://www.thememoryhole.org/about

Information Clearing House:
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info

Greg Palast:
http://www.gregpalast.com

Project Censored:

Corporate Watch (USA):
http://www.corpwatch.org

Corporate Watch (UK):
http://www.corporatewatch.org.uk

From The Wilderness:
http://www.fromthewilderness.com

As a bonus, here is a very useful tool which allows one to track back various Wikipedia entries, and see who and when has (re)edited them:

Wiki Dashboard:
http://wikidashboard.parc.com

As for "examples of ways you would perform advanced searches", I keep it simple: go to Google --> Advanced Search ---> Find web pages that have...
all these words - type - Obama cabinet members, ties, Monsanto - and here you go:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=Obama+cabinet+members%2C+ties%2C+Monsanto&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=10&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images

I usually find these results to be good enough a strating point for a more detailed search.

Hope this is helpful!

When I want to search for more obscure things I use Complete Planet and Incy Wincy. I did a search for Monsanto on Complete Planet, Incy Wincy, Google, MSN and Yahoo; you can see the difference in the results. Hope this helps with your research.

ask the question, if nothing comes up, rephrase, i believe google has a tool for search, that allows you to search phrases and use symbols for if, and, also, possibly, to allow for better search query results. also here is a link i believe should also be of some help. www.mashable.com has some excellent toolboxes with loads of excellent resources for just about anything
