Why are there people who exist on online dating websites that have no interest in meeting anyone in real life?

They are online dating, but they have no interest in meeting a person in real life, and they say this for any person. They have 0 interest in meeting anyone in real life, but remain on an online dating website. What's the point of this and why do these people live on online dating websites?

Maybe it is the concept of living vicariously through someone else. In this case, their online persona.

Some people simply join online dating sites because they are bored and they want to see what kind of responses they will get. Of course you will find those people who will meet you but have no intention of having a serious relationship because chances are they are already in a relationship.

To be absolutely blunt about it without being too graphic, I think some people get turned on by it. It offers a no-holds-barred arena to flirt with people with no risks of rejection (and even if you are it doesn't matter another profile is only a click away). It gives people a burst of esteem and, like others said, creates a fun. flirty persona that maybe they really can't be in real life.
