What are alternatives to Cox cable for broadband in Las Vegas?

Wireline would be best but wireless solutions could be considered IF AND ONLY IF they are safe for use in an apartment.

I would look into cell phone providers that offer USB modem solutions. For similar money to cable (I pay $50 a month) you can get a USB based dongle that you could use wirelessly anywhere in the city. Speed should be good, but make sure you look for a service that is absolutely unlimited. The last thing you want is a 5GB cap. In the Denver area where i live Cricket offers just this for about $60 monthly. With some creative networking you could even share the connection with other devices in your home. Check with the National carriers, but you may end up with the best deal with a local provider.

Looks like you have two options. Hughes Satellite service and Air-Internet. Both are wireless solutions that have so-so ratings. You could also go with sprint mobile broadband and try to tether your phone to your computer for access.

That doesn't work. Satellite dishes are not considered safe for apartments and are often lease violations. http://go.gethughesnet.com/howitworks.cfm
